Ypsi coach knows how to motivate

Steve Brooks has been coaching basketball for a long time. He knows how to motivate his players. I was able to see this first hand against Tecumseh last Friday. His team was tied at the end of the first quarter.
Ypsi went on a 25-0 run in the second to blow the door open. I went to the locker room with the team and you would have thought they were losing.
He made sure those kids knew they could do better. I have not been in a lot of lockers at the half. I was amazed at the way he got those kids motivated. It made me glad I was a reporter and not a player.
Simply put those players respect him or they don't play. Let me add I now know why he is hoarse by the end of the game.
Oh, they went on to win by 40 points.

Brady Hoke: A coach with a sense of humor?

Brady Hoke, who was recently announced as the University of Michigan's new head football coach, took the podium Wednesday to address the media for the first time in his new position.
He was passionate, direct and a little bit gruff.
In an era of charismatic coaches like Urban Meyer and Lane Kiffin, Hoke seemed to stick out. He's not really very articulate. and it looks like he could probably sweat buckets while wearing short sleeves in November
But so what?
I don't care if the guy if the can't read and does all of his writing with a huge Crayola crayon, if he can make Michigan relevant in the Big 10 again, it's fine by me.
Heck, if he can find a way to beat Ohio State, he can do all of his press conferences in Pig Latin for all I care.
So he may not be the slickest, smoothest talking, best-looking coach in the world, but if he wins, all that won't matter.
Oh, and he has a sense of humor too. That was exemplified a few years ago when, as head coach of the Ball State Cardinals, Hoke went on Late Night with David Letterman (a Ball State alumnus) and read off the "Top Ten Highlights of the Ball State Cardinals Football Season" as part of the talk show host's Top Ten segment.

OK, so he was still a little stiff.
But as long as he wins, who cares.
